ISCHIA
The Island of Wine

The Ancient Romans named Ischia “ENARIA“, meaning “The Island of Wine“.
The mild Mediterranean climate, volcanic soil, tuff stone, and sea breeze have always favored the production of high-quality wines on Ischia. These wines, exported worldwide, have been one of the island’s most significant economic resources since ancient times. The most renowned local grape varieties used in wine production include “Biancolella” and “Forastera” for white wines, and “Guarnaccia” and “Piedirosso” (literally “red foot“), locally known in dialect as “Per’ e Palummo” or “Pigeon’s Foot“.
Seven wine varieties produced on Ischia hold the DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) certification: Ischia Bianco, Ischia Bianco Spumante, Ischia Rosso, Biancolella, Forastera, Per’ e Palummo, and Per’ e Palummo Passito.
So, whether you’re visiting Ischia to enjoy its splendid climate, beaches, thermal baths, or other activities, don’t miss the opportunity to taste some of the island’s exceptional wines. Let their unique flavors and aromas enrich your vacation memories and accompany you on your journey home.
